The Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech) is pleased to announce that Joel Crandall will succeed Jeff Tollefson as its next president and CEO, effective March 17, 2025.

The leadership transition follows Tollefson’s announcement in Fall 2024 of his intention to step down as CEO in 2025. Crandall returns to MnTech, where he previously served as vice president of Programs & Talent and executive director of the MnTech Foundation, after most recently managing a leadership development and upskilling program for technology leaders at U.S. Bank.

“I am delighted that the executive board pursued and hired Joel as MnTech’s next president and CEO,” said Tollefson. “Having worked alongside Joel for nearly 15 years, both at MnTech and Genesys Works, I know firsthand what a principled and effective leader he is and I’m confident he will lead the organization to new levels of growth and community impact in the years ahead.”

Joel Crandall

Crandall has dedicated his career to building collaborative relationships, creating pathways for underrepresented young people to enter technology and business careers, supporting companies in recruiting, developing, and retaining skilled technology professionals, and driving member engagement initiatives for MnTech.

Crandall holds a bachelor’s degree from North Central University and a Master of Divinity from Bethel University. He completed a Policy Fellowship at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, where he focused on inclusiveness, bipartisanship, and public service.

“For forty years, MnTech has evolved alongside Minnesota technology companies to make life and work better, together,” said Crandall. “In an environment of radical change for business, the mission of MnTech is more important than ever. I’m grateful for the outstanding growth driven by Jeff during his tenure, and proud to return to MnTech to lead the advocacy, community building and talent development efforts that will allow Minnesota’s technology ecosystem to shine even brighter.”

Tollefson will remain in an advisory capacity through the end of the Minnesota legislative session to support a smooth transition and ensure continuity in MnTech’s advocacy efforts.
