When you help run the largest healthcare company in the world and still make time to raise money for local non-profits in need, chances are you’re doing something right. Perhaps even something worth celebrating.

John Santelli started his career at UnitedHealth Group (UHG) in 1986 and came to the position with an extensive background in software engineering and application development. He applied this knowledge to the expansion of high-volume transaction processing systems, used to improve UnitedHealth’s administrative, financial and clinical technology.

In 2007, Santelli’s technical contributions helped him rise to Chief Information Officer. Since then, Santelli spearheaded the enterprise architecture and foundational tech capabilities behind UnitedHealth Group’s reputable innovation.

Today, Santelli also serves as the leader of Optum’s primary technology delivery division, Optum Technology. Leading a global team of more than 23,000 technologists and engineers, together they leverage the latest tech and digital solutions to create a more intelligent, connected, collaborative and efficient health care system.

When he’s not working, Santelli regularly dedicates his time, resources and passion to support education, the advancement of technology and more accessible and affordable quality health care to those who need it most. One of his notable charitable efforts is the annual golf tournament that he co-chairs which has raised millions of dollars for non-profit organizations that are nominated and chosen by UHG employees.

For his contribution to the innovation of technology in our state, and his inspiring role as a philanthropist and changemaker, the Minnesota Technology Association is proud to name John Santelli as one of two outstanding technology leaders that have been chosen to receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

We hope you’ll join us on November 18 for the live, virtual award show where we’ll honor the Lifetime Achievement winners along with their fellow Minnesota innovators to be recognized at this year’s Tekne Awards.
