Product Owner Forum: Understanding Tech as a PO/PM

Being a Tech Product Owner comes with a diverse set of challenges.  This role requires the same foundational product skills that any valued Product Owner should possess, but also requires a level of technical aptitude to set and guide a clear vision, strategy, and principles for your product. In this session, we’ll do some myth busting on what it really means to be a Tech PO and share personal experiences on how this role shows up differently depending on: your industry, company, and/or product. Discussion will include but is not limited to:

  1. As a Product Owner, how do you help your team understand the business impacts and outcomes?
  2. How do you collaborate with engineering on the translation of business requirements?
  3. What are some learning opportunities for you to explore a technical Product Owner role?
  4. Are there examples of clarity or lack of clarity in how your Product fits into the overall architecture?
  5. What are some things you’ve done to engage with engineering that have worked well or have been challenging?

The first 15 minutes of the forum is driven by thought leaders from Best Buy and Target as they share their best practices related to a few of the topics above. The remaining 45 minutes is discussion driven and will be spent in small group breakout rooms so attendees can network, share best practices, ask questions, learn from each other and more. Attendees should come ready to share, learn, and contribute to the peer-to-peer discussion.

MnTech PO/PM Forums are quarterly educational forums, created by Product Owners for Product Owners. These afternoon events provide excellent networking opportunities as well candid discussions around technology issues, trends and challenges that POs/PMs face every day.

Product Owner Forums are by invitation to Product Owners and Product Managers. Please contact Jackie Spiess at Jackie@mntech.org to request an invitation.
